The old model is dead.

Development projects have a bad reputation for cost overruns, massive delays, and outright failure.

The old model thrives on vague cost estimates, lame excuses, unclear goals, lengthy waits for delivery, wrapped in layers of bureaucracy - all on the customer's dime.

Seven deadly sins

Peel back the curtain, and you'll find the truth about the old model:
There's no magic, only dirty secrets.

When we last looked back there, the deck was stacked...

Buying the Bullshit

Buying the Bullshit

BUYING THE BULLSHIT

The old model is your own personal hype-crew with a hefty price tag. Their job is to buy into your idea and deliver it, whether it's destined for success or failure. Hot tip: If you leave a first meeting feeling like a rock star with a new set of groupies, ask yourself: what do they have to gain from your idea?
Success < Billable Hours

SUCCESS < BILLABLE HOURS

Our 20 years of experience has given us some somewhat deflating insights. A team working on your big budget project will likely know if something is set to be a success or not before it's even delivered. In most cases, keeping the doors open takes priority over the success of your project.
I see your budget & raise you double

I SEE YOUR BUDGET & RAISE YOU DOUBLE

That figure you've got in your head? Double it. It's the inevitable "hat in hand" moment that comes after the praising of your genius idea that'll cause you to blink back a tear or two. It's the worst kept secret that a project budget typically doubles after everyone has added their healthy dose of fat to their line items.
Time is money

TIME IS MONEY

The old saying rings true and a classic move will see the words "scope change" come up as often as the topic of weather. Contractors move on, recruitment falls through, a fresh idea arose, a pivot is required. Excuses add time and that time will eat your budget and patience simultaneously.
The customer is always right?

THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT?

If you're not being challenged at why you're wanting to proceed with your idea and what problem it's going to solve, then you're in the wrong meeting room.
A great technical success!

A GREAT TECHNICAL SUCCESS!

You're live! The keys have been handed over, everything looks flash, you're feeling groovy, only for it to be tarnished with that sinking feeling of dread as you rapidly hit the refresh button on your analytics page thinking something must be broken. Technically no, your idea is simply just not resonating with your customers.
Fake it til you make it

FAKE IT TIL YOU MAKE IT

There's an incentive to bite off more than you can chew. The lines blur between blind optimism and naivety on what's realistically achievable. The net result in most cases is an ill equipped team tasked with a project that has no real grounds for success.

At Maverick, we have a striking point of difference

Fixed Budget + Rapid Delivery

Three simple options - know what you're up for before the project begins.
A straight up price, timeframe and result!

The

Model

Validate early, and fail fast

The most important part of our process is the initial validation of an idea. While there's no substitute for the real thing, our testing process adds a layer of security before proceeding with a build. While failure is always a possibility, validation saves your wallet (and our reputation).

Aligned incentives

Success is ultimately the key metric we're striving for. Our transparent approach guarantees you that if we can't see value happening within the set timeframe, we'll let you know. We're not in pursuit of racking up billable hours to extend a project, our incentive is to do good work, launch something that will be of value to your customers and will grow ….so you'll be sending us more work in a few months time.

Clear delivery date, come hell or high water

We'll set a hard start and end date with you before we get stuck in.
Fixed cost. Fixed deadline.

Managing expectations

Rome wasn't built in a day - or a single sprint. That's pretty obvious to all involved. While you can achieve a lot, we'll work with you to outline what's possible.

Focus on value

When time is of the essence, every move needs to drive us toward the end goal. There's no bikeshedding over trivial matters like colours and progress reports. Every small task either gets us one step closer to the goal, or it's cut.

Promotes innovative thinking

Aggressive time constraints forces a team to band together to problem solve, faster. To bastardise a quote from Sir Ernest Rutherford - We didn't have the time, so we had to think.

A sprint, not a marathon

Just like sprinters and marathon runners are different kinds of athletes, people who thrive on fast deadlines differ to those who prefer a slower burn. Our team is made up of sprinters, an innovative, entrepreneurial bunch with a lighting fast approach to tasks and a healthy understanding and appetite for risk.

Generally fun!

Like all good relationships, Projects have a honeymoon period. Everything looks bright at the beginning and there's a fever-pitch flurry of work in the race to the finish. By keeping our time frames short, we constantly live in both of these modes which maximises the fun for all involved!

We stick by our agreed timeframe. We'll have your pre-agreed upon project in your hot little hands ASAP.

We're as serious as you can get when we say we focus on launching manageable, comprehendible, valuable delivery chunks of work on a regular basis.

After all, we've got a tight schedule to keep!

A bit about us

Launch Addicts

We're hooked on launching almost as much as we are our daily caffeine. There's a thrill in creating something from nothing and we get an absolute kick out of putting new stuff into the world. We've put together a lean, cross-functional team optimised for just one thing: Launching.

Maverick is the dream team we'd use to launch our own businesses. We back ourselves so much that we're using Maverick as a launchpad for our own projects. They're still under wraps at the moment - but you can make sure you're the first to know when we have something to share here.

Respect Our Craft

For us, the need for speed will never override the respect for our craft. Quality is King and our focus is collectively the look and feel, reliability and security of the projects we produce.

We pride ourselves on the work we do and our results are in line with what you'd expect from a traditional Agency process (read: lengthier and more costly).

You're thinking that to deliver on such tight deadlines, there must be a catch somewhere and you're right. When working with us, that's going to be the scope. We're going to push you to keep the launch as lean as possible - probably leaner than you're comfortable with. That said, our early validation of this with real customers will ensure that our shared trimmed-down vision delivers value for them before we write a line of code.

Local Team

The whole Maverick team is based in beautiful New Zealand. Wherever possible, we prefer to run our workshops in person. Once the workshop is complete, our designers and developers will take over. We don't outsource the work, it's all done by our locally based team. This means we can keep a close eye on all of our projects and maintain our premium quality.
